This is a two-day intensive certification training. This training focuses on teaching the AutPlay Therapy treatment approach, an integrative family play therapy and behavioral therapy approach to working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, neurodevelopmental disorders, and other developmental disabilities.

Description of Training In this experiential workshop, participants will review ethical theories and models of ethical decision-making relevant to play therapy applications. Special emphasis will be placed on developing professionals’ understanding of decision-making processes used in arriving at ethical courses of action in four primary areas of emphasis in professional ethics codes and the APT Practice Guidelines. These areas include: a) informed consent, b) confidentiality, c) competence, and d) multiple relationships. Using case studies and vignettes, professionals will be invited to consider what might be the best course of action in a variety of play therapy scenarios presenting ethical dilemmas.
Dr. Jeff Ashby is a Professor in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services at Georgia State University. He is the former Director of Georgia State’s Counseling Psychology doctoral program, a licensed psychologist, a Diplomat of the American Board of Professional Psychology, and a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor. Dr. Ashby has taught ethics at the graduate level for over 20 years and has served as Member of the Ethics Committee of the Georgia Psychological Association, Chair of the Ethics Committee of the International Association of Play Therapy and as an ethics content expert with the State of Georgia Psychology board. He has made over 100 presentations at professional conferences and authored/co-authored more than 100 articles in refereed journals, numerous book chapters, and two books. Brighter Tomorrows has been offered full provider/training status through the Association for Play Therapy (www.a4pt.org) to offer the full coursework necessary to become a registered play therapist. Shannon offers 25 workshops designed to meet all 150 core education hours needed for counselors seeking to become play therapists. She is also certified as a Master’s level teacher, holding valid State of Georgia teaching certification. The classes are interesting, integrative, experiential, and fun. Counselors who have taken a master’s level play therapy class automatically receive 67.5 contact hours through the Association for Play Therapy. Counselors who have not had a graduate level play therapy course can still meet all of the 150 core education hours needed at Brighter Tomorrows Consulting (APT 10-278). Coursework includes workshops on ethics, sand tray, puppets, storytelling, trauma, grief, and loss, addictions, play therapy theories and foundations, and many other topics. Classes can be structured around your individual schedule or can be incorporated in workshop trainings offered at Brighter Tomorrows Consulting. Play Therapy supervision can also be provided while you are working toward your goal of becoming a play therapist.
